When I was a child, my mom would be the one to read to me and it would mostly be before I went to bed. There were a few other times when she would read to me, like Christmas Eve night she would read me a Christmas book. The two main books I remember her reading to me were “The Giving Tree” and “Love You Forever”. In the past, when I had to read, sometimes I would skim the book just to find the answers quick and easy. Other times I would read the selection, sometimes because I couldn’t find the answer from skimming. I was never taught any specific strategies for when I read. I was also never diagnosed with any reading disabilities.

When I read a book I like, my experience would be that the whole world around me disappears and I get sucked into the book. The kinds of books I like the most and have read the most are Sci-fi books because they take me to a different world. The only other things I like to really read other than books have to be magazines like “Dirt Wheels”. I don’t really like reading that much unless I read for a little while and start to get interested in the book. I like to read books like “Dark Life” and “The Zombie Survival Guide”. I don’t like to read very much because I hate how I can be reading a book and my mind drifts off elsewhere and then I have to go back and re-read what I just read. This can be especially true with books about politics, drama, or history because those are the kinds of books I hate to read.

I don’t really listen to audio books because I prefer to read the book itself instead of listening to a book. I feel that reading in high school was something that was helpful, but I don’t think that it was too important. Based on my past experiences, my expectations are that I will read when I need to but it won’t be necessary.
